Position overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated senior mechanical engineer to bring mechanical design expertise to energy efficiency and decarbonisation projects across industrial sectors. You will develop, design, implement and optimise mechanical systems and processes in high energy-use environments.
Key responsibilities
- Project leadership: lead the mechanical design and execution of energy-related projects, including HVAC upgrades, compressed air systems, heat recovery, steam systems, and refrigeration and process cooling solutions
- Engineering design and specification: develop mechanical engineering specifications, technical drawings and tender documentation
- Client engagement: collaborate with clients to understand their energy goals, define project scopes and present solutions to engineering and non-technical stakeholders
- Team collaboration and mentorship: mentor junior engineers and support cross-functional teams
- Innovation and continuous improvement: identify new technologies and methods to improve energy efficiency in mechanical systems
Core competencies
- Mechanical system design (thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer)
- Project management (scheduling, budgeting, contractor coordination, reporting)
- Energy efficiency engineering (chillers, boilers, heat exchangers, air handling systems)
- Technical documentation
- Regulatory and standards knowledge (Irish and EU energy regulations, ASHRAE, CIBSE, PED)
- Client-focused communication
- Data analysis and problem solving
- Leadership and mentoring
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
- Minimum seven or more years' post-graduate experience in mechanical or energy engineering, preferably in industrial or utilities sectors
- Chartered Engineer status or eligibility is desirable
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit or similar design tools, with energy modelling software a plus
- Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites
