Our story
Before There Was EM3, There Was a Gap
A gap between energy targets and practical action. Between opportunities identified and projects delivered. Between what industrial organisations wanted to achieve and the engineering support needed to make it happen.
EM3 was created to help close that gap.
Where It Began
It Started on Industrial Sites
EM3 was founded by engineers who understood the reality of complex industrial environments.
They saw how difficult it was for facilities to make energy decisions when information was fragmented, systems were complex, and the pressure to reduce cost and carbon was growing.
The challenge was not a lack of ambition. It was a lack of clear, practical engineering support that could turn ambition into action.
Why EM3 Was Created
Built to Connect Strategy With Delivery
From the beginning, EM3 was built around a simple idea: good advice is only valuable if it can be implemented.
That meant working differently. Not as a general consultancy. Not as a technology vendor. And not as a team that stops at recommendations.
EM3 was created to help industrial organisations understand what was happening on site, identify what could realistically be improved, build the case for investment, and support projects through to delivery.
The Work We Chose
Focused on Complex Industrial Environments
EM3 has always focused on facilities where energy is tied directly to production, quality, compliance, resilience, and cost.
That includes pharmaceutical, medical device, food and beverage, life sciences, chemical, advanced manufacturing, and other energy-intensive industries.
These are not simple environments. Recommendations need to work around production schedules, operational risks, site constraints, quality requirements, and long-term business priorities.
That complexity is where EM3 does its best work.
How the Company Grew
From Energy Efficiency to Full Project Support
As client needs evolved, EM3 evolved with them.
What started with energy efficiency and site assessments grew into broader support across audits, feasibility studies, decarbonisation roadmaps, engineering design, project delivery, energy management, and long-term performance improvement.
The reason for that growth was simple: clients needed support beyond the report. They needed help turning findings into funded projects, and funded projects into delivered results.
Becoming Part of SHV Energy2020
Local Engineering Expertise. Global Backing.
In 2020, EM3 was acquired by SHV Group and became part of the SHV Energy family.
For EM3, that was an important step in the company’s growth. It gave the business the backing of a long-established global energy organisation while allowing EM3 to keep the specialist, engineering-led approach that made it valuable to industrial clients in the first place.
Being part of SHV Energy also opened the door to a wider network of local energy businesses, regional knowledge, and on-the-ground relationships. That matters because energy projects are never only technical. They are shaped by local markets, regulation, infrastructure, incentives, and the people who understand those conditions.
Today, EM3 can work as a specialist industrial engineering partner while also collaborating with sister companies across the SHV Energy group, including Calor in Ireland and Supergasbras in Brazil, where local market knowledge can help turn good engineering ideas into projects that make sense on the ground.
Where We Are Today
A Team Built Around the Full Journey
Today, EM3 has grown from its Irish roots into an international industrial energy and decarbonisation business.
The company is headquartered in Limerick, with a growing presence in Chicago, Madrid, the UK, the Netherlands, Brazil, and other markets where our clients operate. Our teams are based across different regions, but the work is connected by one shared approach: understand the site, build the right case, deliver the project, and keep performance moving in the right direction.
That international growth has been deliberate. Industrial clients are rarely dealing with energy challenges in one location only. Many operate across multiple countries, with different regulations, incentives, utility systems, and investment pressures. EM3 has grown to support that reality.
Our team brings together consultants, engineers, project managers, energy managers, technical specialists, and business support teams who work across the full lifecycle of energy and decarbonisation projects.
From a first conversation on site to long-term energy management, EM3 is built to stay involved. Not just to identify what should change, but to help make sure the change can be funded, delivered, measured, and sustained.
What Still Guides Us
The Same Belief That Started It All
EM3 has grown, but the belief behind the company has stayed the same.
Energy should be understood before it is changed. Recommendations should be practical. Engineering should shape decisions. And projects should be delivered in a way that creates measurable value.
That is the story of EM3: a company built to help industry close the gap between ambition and action.
